A continuous commitment to women empowerment
There cannot be true democracy unless women`s voices are beard and they are given the opportunity to take responsibility for their
lives”. Following the Beijing Conference in 1997, the “Vital Voices” movement, a worldwide network of women leaders was launched. Six prominent Haitian women leaders participated in the Vital Voices of the Americas Conference, in 1998, in Montevideo, Uruguay. They returned home to launch the Vital Voices movement and create a non profit independent organization “Voix Essentielles – Femmes en Démocratie (FED). This organization shares Vital Voices belief in transformative value of women’s participation in society. It aims to empower Haitian women to fulfill their true potential in the domains of economic and entrepreneurial opportunity, political participation, and legal/human rights. Femmes en Démocratie is integrated and led by several prominent women figures that play leadership roles in Haiti’s society, and which include former parliament and cabinet members as well as successful business women, educators, lawyers and journalists. |
